OmniRig is the most useful rig interface ever.. it provides a simple API to allow multiple applications to share the same radio interface. It supports a huge range of radios but you can edit the parameter files to add new ones.

VSPE by Eterlogic provides virtual serial ports allowing two packages to communicate with each other as if they were connected to a real serial port. I tried several on my Windows 10 PC before finding this was the only 100% reliable solution for me. There is a small $25 fee for the 64 bit version (32 bit is free) but it's worth every penny. I use it to connect Ham Radio Deluxe (HRD) to OmniRig. HRD emulates a Kenwood radio so you can control it as such, regardless what radio it's actually connected to.

VB-Audio virtual cable is another magic utility. This creates a virtual sound card that allows one app to output audio signals to (virtual microphone) and another to listen to (virtual speaker). This allows the SDR to output its decoded output to an audio channel to be heard by WSJT-X (or other data mode reader app such as  DM-780).

JT-Alert connects it all up, watches the decodes from WSJT-X and identifies the sources, checks your logbook and tells you if you've worked them before, writes new log entries to your logbook when you complete a QSO. You can also set audible alerts, so when a country or locator square you're desperate for is heard, it can sound an audible alarm so you don't miss it.

The latest version of JT-Alert however no longer supports HRD Log, but there is a workaround for this which I will try and document shortly.

HDSDR is the software I use to display a spectrum scope from my IC-7100. This allows me to see pretty much the whole of an HF band in one go or zoom in to a specific section. I can click on a signal of interest and it will tune the radio to that. This makes life so much easier and I have found stations I would have otherwise missed as a result. Having tried other SDR applications for my panadapter solution, HDSDR is the only one that I could make work easily and is incredibly reliable.
